This past week I have received three orders all of whome are getting the Calton case for their Guitars. One of these is from a fellow from Calgary who is thinking he might prefer to pick up the case himself and save on having it shipped out to me (save an aditional $50) He does want to buy it through me of course as it saves him over $250 compared to buying it retail. I am still thinking it might be best to have the case shipped to me and then use that for shipping the guitar to him but I am wondering if anyone has ideas on shipping it without the case? |

I am only one opinion, but I would never ship without a case...too many things can happen and all of them bad! I have many friends working in the shipping industry (FedEx, UPS, USPS) and they all say the better packaging, the better...to rely only on the box and peanuts, bubble wrap, or air bags would be inviting disaster, I think. |

At this point that is what I have told the fellow. to save $50-$60 It really isn't worth it in my oipinion. I could ship it in a TKL case but than that is costing the same amount as it would to have the Calton case shipped to me and then shipping it with guitar in side back to him. I don't see it as a risk worth taking but then others may have a differnet view which I would love to hear. |

If the customer is so concerned about protecting the guitar that he is buying a Calton, I can't beleive he's even considering shipping the guitar without it. In a short phrase: DON'T DO IT!!! |

I think most folks here worry about shipping a guitar in the case. Without a case? NO WAY! |

Yeah, I think that Paul shaved a point on it. He cares enough to BUY a Calton, but is going to take a chance on shipping without ANY case to save $50. That is just crazy. I am sure you can bring him around. |

Having never faced the issue, I would have to agree with the others. On the other hand, if you feel "forced" into it, I would double-box at the very least. Meaning that you packege and protect the guitar in the inner box and then repackage in an outter box allowing for several inches on all sides and this too would be filled with peanuts or the like. Not ideal but certainly a fairly safe alternative. Sincerely, Steve Brown PS Oh, and insure the heck out of it!

I ordered a cheap Yamaha guitar from Elderly years ago,Without a case.They wrapped the whole guitar in newspaper and threw in some foam but the guitar could move in the box. When I opened it there were scuffs on the sides and bubble impressions on the back.Luckily it all buffed out nice. So if you ship it make sure it is secure in the box and can't move and ruin the finish.They would have takin' care of it but I didn't want the hassle of shipping it back in a box! |

As I said, that is what I told him and he is fine with it. After telling him that though I wondered if it was doable. Wisdom agrees it isn't a wise way to go. The money is already down on this guitar so it isn't a matter of that $50 making or breaking the deal any way. |

if he insists upon shipping without a case i would expressly deny any responsibility for its safe shipment and point out that it would void, due to owner negligence, any warranty expressed or implied to the extent that the law governing the sale allows.. in fact it may not be possible to insure. i would check with whoever you ship with as to whether they will accept it and insure it. |

Good point on the insurance. I doubt the carrier will honor any claim if you ship it that way. (I'm sure they will be happy to accept your insurance money, just won't honor a claim) |
